"I use drugs, we'll recover…"

since 1991

The Leo Amici Foundation was established in 1991. Then at Komló the Foundation's inpatient institute was opened for recovering alcohol and drug addicts.
Our colleagues: doctor-psychiatrist, internist, social workers, recovered addicts, and laic helpers

The institute is near to Komló, it is situated in a walleye rounded by forests. There can be cured 15 persons at the same time.

Therapies in the Institute of Leo Amici Foundation:

Group therapy:
The warm atmosphere, full of love and care, supporting the ripening of personality, the clearly defined boundaries and frames, the spiritual values, the humility and the importance of dignity as the most important characteristics of our institute can be felt by those who apply for treatment to us.

The themes of group therapy can be described as follows:

- Stopping the controller behavour, humility, making personal list, the indulgence, the redemption, trying new forms of behaviour etc.
- how do I see myself, how do I see the others, how has the drug/alcohol changed me, what did I loose having consumed the drug/alcohol, how can I learn to express my feelings honestly.

Theatre- and music therapy

The common games, the singing and dancing connected with them, give opportunity to express a lot of aggression, pain and joy, to overcome blockages, to get through the obstacles blocking the self. The common rehearsals and performances give a great amount of help especially for those, who have a long history of life using drugs/alcohol, therefore meet a lot of difficulties when trying to speak, to move, to live in a community.

Since 1994 Dr. George Baal - director of CRNS in France, expert of theatre therapy, leader of ATRAAL Theatre (Paris) - have been giving us a real professional help.

Our former clients - who used to use actively drugs/alcohol - being on the way of recovery often play performances or music in the different schools and cultural institute all around the country.

Activities in work therapy:
  - Farming and work in the household
- work in the garden
- work in joinery-shop
- masonry
- taking part in education

Group therapy for parents and relatives

In our rehabilitation work we must take into consideration the parents and relatives a well. We organize regular weekend-therapies for them. The addiction is always affects the families, so we treat it in connection with the family-system. The aim of our work with addicted people and his/her relatives is making them to gain a bigger control over the patterns of addiction affecting their life. Our institute with it familiar atmosphere in the conception of "hard love" gives the opportunity of growing up again, accepting more then before the paradoxes and necessities of life.

Group therapy for preventing relapse
"Abstinance-maintainig Group"

This is the group-form of those recovered clients, who have finishes the treatment successfully and left the institute. The constant abstinence seems to be a result of maintaining the new attitude, the new way of thinking; if the new patterns of behavior are supported, the relapse; the old style of life and attitudes can be prevented. The addicted people usually have the disposition to relapse. We must pay as much attention on the prevention of relapse as the initial stages of the therapy.
The members of the group meet once in a month, as a self-help group in our institute.

"Place for practice"
Practice of fieldwork for high school and university students

We take part in the education of academy and university students. Students of sociology, social-work, social-policy, psychology and addictology come to us - and we strive to form their professional identity, to help the in applying their theoretical knowledge in the field-work, so our institute for them is a model-like place for practice.
The students applying for practice can work and live together with the addicts under treatment, and they can take part in staff discussions as well. They can observe step by step the mechanisms, life and methods of the institute during the different therapeutic sessions (group-work-theatre-music); they are to make case descriptions and accounts.

"I have decided myself - I stop it …. and something was lacking and this something is not born in our head as other decisions - it is born much deeper, in our heart - the very depth of our heart. Conviction is not enough … something more is needed."
